![]() If this is going to be the thing that puts food on your table, then you should be sure that everything about it is going to be as stable and reliable as your ideal three squares. Or maybe a plugin does something wonky that is a show stopper. That means any patch they release could cause it to become unstable or crashy. What about poor solder joints that require a number of heat/cool cycles to cause them to crack, like the Xbox 360 RROD and PS3 YLOD. There's still a lot of unknowns, like is there some defect in the hinge that only becomes apparent after a year of use. Never bet on Gen 1 for your go-to machine unless your backup machine is solid. The ARM platform is looking really impressive, but it's still just a first generation product. M1 is not ready for prime time with pros. I could tell you about my feelings about how Apple has treated industry professionals, how PCs tend to be more cost effective, and all that, but I'm not. Those warnings are like a little voice in my head, and they’re giving me second thoughts. Despite some warnings that Premiere Pro still doesn’t utilize the new M1 chip as well as it should, I’ve been using Macs my entire career and I just didn’t want to waste time becoming acclimated to a new PC-so I pulled the trigger on ordering a 24” M1 iMac with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. My 2018 MacBook Pro wasn’t cutting it with 4K C500 footage, and I needed something new, and fast. I just started a new project that has emboldened me to upgrade my whole system.
